I am an associate professor of marketing at Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management. My research examines how we can improve our daily efforts at communication, applying lessons from consumer behavior, social psychology, and behavioral economics. As a few examples, I find that people frequently fail to ask interesting questions because they overestimate how uncomfortable their conversation partners would be, study how people can brag successfully by simultaneously bragging about a peer, and show that charities can promote donations by communicating information about what size of donation is appropriate to give.

My research is published in top journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Management Science, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and Psychological Science, and my work has been covered by outlets such as Harvard Business Review, Time, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and the Freakonomics podcast.

Full PDF copies of my published papers can be found on the Research tab below.
